LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Students from several schools in Allen and Hardin counties are taking a serious interest in cybersecurity, attending an informational session at The Hub to learn more about protecting sensitive information online.

The session allowed students to explore whether they wanted to enroll in a full cybersecurity course, with instructors highlighting the growing career opportunities in the field.

Carter Ruble, a student at Lima Senior High School, said, “It’s very interesting. I’ve always liked being in technology, so cybersecurity was just what caught my eye first, to protect all the information that is important.”

Trystahn Eyerly, a cybersecurity instructor, added, “Personally, I believe every student should look at this. It’s one of the top five fastest-growing positions. There are 13,000 different cybersecurity positions, according to CyberSeek, available in the Ohio region alone.”

The Hub offers career exploration programs in collaboration with the Lima Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Allen County Educational Service Center. A career day for educational leaders and parents is scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
