LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Art lovers, rejoice! ArtSpace/Lima announced its expansion plans on Monday, a project that will transform the gallery into a full-fledged museum.
Just over a year ago, a donor stepped forward with a vision to expand Artspace, offering to finance the vacant building next to the current gallery in downtown Lima. That vision is becoming a reality, as building renovations are set to kick off this month. And that work will help ArtSpace take the next step to becoming a museum.
"An art gallery is a rotating gallery. Meaning we don't have things up for an extended period. We can have six to eight weeks, or it might be two months. But we also have a lot of great things in our storage that we have not shown. We can't show those because we don't have permanent space. Because we don't have the space in our building, that's gonna be the perfect opportunity for the new building to have a permanent collection displayed. We will then go from an art gallery to an art museum, which is really exciting. We've been thinking about that for a few years now," said Sally Windle, director of ArtSpace/Lima.
During the renovations, activities will continue as usual in the ArtSpace gallery, with lots of events and artists coming into town this summer. As for the timeline, there's no set completion date, but renovations are estimated to take about two years. ArtSpace/Lima is located at 65 - 67 Town Square Lima, Ohio 45801.
