September 9, 2024, Press Release from the Hancock Historical Museum: Findlay, OH – The Hancock Historical Museum welcomes all ages to step back into the 19th century and tour its Little Red Schoolhouse during an Open House from 1 – 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15. Museum docents will guide visitors as they explore the one-room schoolhouse and children can partake in activities provided. The Little Red Schoolhouse located at 8884 County Road 236, Findlay, OH was built in 1882 and used to educate schoolchildren until 1936. It was then used to store grain for 36 years until the Hancock County Retired Teachers and the Hancock Historical Society restored the schoolhouse in 1972. Today, it is owned and operated by the Hancock Historical Museum and hosts area third and fourth grade students for field trips each year.

Docents from the Allen County Museum didn't go far for their yearly history trip, but they did learn more about some local history. In years past, the group went to Cincinnati to see the Terracotta Warriors or to Fremont to visit the Hayes Presidential Library. But for this year's trip, they decided to focus on some local history, like the steam locomotive exhibit and the Lima Firefighter Memorial Museum in Lincoln Park in Lima.

Art lovers, rejoice! ArtSpace/Lima announced its expansion plans on Monday, a project that will transform the gallery into a full-fledged museum. Just over a year ago, a donor stepped forward with a vision to expand Artspace, offering to finance the vacant building next to the current gallery in downtown Lima. That vision is becoming a reality, as building renovations are set to kick off this month. And that work will help ArtSpace take the next step to becoming a museum.

February 16, 2024 Press Release from the Allen County Museum: The Allen County Museum is pleased to announce a grant award from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy Demands Wisdom. The museum was awarded $25,000 through the Public Impact Projects at Smaller Organizations program. This program focuses on helping smaller organizations enrich how they inform the public about their collections and the histories and stories surrounding them.

The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board and Capitol Square Foundation will unveil the 9-foot by 12-foot painting, “Ohioans in Space” by artist Bill Hinsch at the Ohio Statehouse on Wednesday, January 24 at 8:30 p.m. in the Rotunda.  The painting features John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Jim Lovell, Judith Resnik and Gene Kranz, and recognizes the accomplishments of Ohioans in space travel and exploration. Names of the 25 astronauts born in Ohio and others will be listed on a permanent plaque near the painting.
