LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A group of local students is preparing for the trip of a lifetime, and they’re inviting the community to join them — virtually. The Lima Sister Cities Association’s Youth Ambassadors delegation is set to depart for Japan next week and will be sharing their journey on Facebook.
The delegation will explore Japanese culture through visits to museums, shrines, and cities across the country, including Lima’s sister city, Harima-cho. Highlights of the trip include a visit to the Tokyo Skytree, the second tallest building in the world, and attending Expo 2025, the World’s Fair in Osaka. Organizers say the trip is not only educational but also inspiring.

“It helps build a community knowing, ‘Hey, my kid could do that in the future,’” said Matthew Neeley, president of the Lima Sister Cities Association. “And it just is amazing to see what these kids get to experience — the culture and everything else that you might not get to see in your lifetime, but get to see it through somebody else’s eyes.”
The association hopes the group’s daily updates, photos, and stories will inspire more students to participate in future exchanges. The community is encouraged to follow along by visiting the association’s Facebook page at facebook.com/LimaSisterCities.
