Annual Allen County Museum docent trip stays local to explore our area's history

ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Docents from the Allen County Museum didn't go far for their yearly history trip, but they did learn more about some local history.

In years past, the group went to Cincinnati to see the Terracotta Warriors or to Fremont to visit the Hayes Presidential Library. But for this year's trip, they decided to focus on some local history, like the steam locomotive exhibit and the Lima Firefighter Memorial Museum in Lincoln Park in Lima.

They believe that as they are helping and informing guests who stop at the Allen County Museum, they can also share some other places around the county that promote local history.

"And we need to be part of that promotion. Not only to get people to come to the museum and become a docent, but to tell people that come to the museum what is going on in Lima and Allen County. There's a lot of great museums in Allen County, in the smaller towns. We want to go and start and visiting them and see how we can help them or they can help us get some more information," says Mark Billingsley, Allen County Museum Docent.

The "Docents' Day Out" ended with a tour of the Allen County Courthouse with Commissioner Beth Siebert.
