SPENCERVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) — Music, food and family fun are taking center stage in Spencerville as the village celebrates its annual Summerfest.

For about 30 years, Summerfest organizers have worked to create an event that offers something for all ages. The three-day festival began Thursday evening and will continue through Saturday. Children enjoyed carnival rides and games set up around main street, while adults gathered at the entertainment and beverage tent for live music and refreshments. Organizers say planning for the festival is a year-round effort, with committee members dedicating countless hours to making the event a success.

“You Know, we'll finish this obviously this weekend. We'll take about a month off and we'll start planning for next year already. So, there's a lot of time and thought put into it and I’m just blessed. We have a really great committee. There's probably 13 of us, 10 to 13 of us that put this on right now and we're always welcoming new members, but just the amount of passion that they put into this just for our community, I think it's just a great thing. And I think it reflects when they come out here and you get to see the smiles on the faces and everything like that,” said Devon Cook, president of the Spencerville Summerfest Committee.

Saturday's events will begin with the annual 5K run at 9 a.m., followed by the Spencerville FFA Car and Tractor Cruise-In from 9 to 11 a.m. The Grand Parade will begin at 4:30 p.m., and one of the area's largest fireworks displays is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. More information about Summerfest can be found at www.spencervillesummerfest.com.
