WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - A Wapakoneta High School student club provided family fun while supporting a good cause.

The Wapakoneta High School Octagon Club hosted its community movie night, showing “The Lego Movie,” at the Wapa Theatre. What made Monday night special was that the Octagon Club focused the movie night on supporting Generations of Love, a Wapakoneta non-profit that supports adoptive families and foster children in need. Instead of charging money, the kids accepted donations of various items, from toiletries and hygienic supplies to toys and socks, as admission, a fun way to give back to their community.

“We felt that this was an important charity to do this year because it's a new charity here in town, and because it is kids at our school who are going to that place even if we don't know them personally, just being able to give back to them in this little way, I think, is very important. In such a small, tight-knit community here like Wapak that us kids can just have such a hand and helping with... like, I think that that's like a really good one that we're able to give back to considering the fact that they're our peers and that there are people that are going to maybe one day possibly be in our shoes and kind of carry these kind of clubs on,” says Anja Walters, President, Wapakoneta High School Octagon Club.
