Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church will be working with Glenn on the Neighbors Helping Neighbors program.
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Councilman Derry Glenn announced on Sunday a new partnership with a church in the 6th ward.
The church will be helping raise money and will serve as a meeting place for those involved in Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church will be working with Glenn on the Neighbors Helping Neighbors program, which offers home repair assistance to Lima residents 65 and older who don't qualify for help from the government. The program helps homeowners with projects like new roofs, painting, and installing handicap ramps. The church will be helping raise money and will serve as a meeting place for those involved in Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
"We have elders, we have youth that have come back to this ministry, we have stakeholders that are also a part of this ministry. It is our duty, in our position, to be the light in this city. That's the reason why we are out here in the streets," said Pastor Floyd Upshaw.
"A lot of people in the 6th ward and this area are very excited about it. They always said, Derry, when are you going to get a church involved? A church that we can go to, assist in feeding the homeless, pass out food, and give them clothing in the wintertime to have somewhere to go. That's what this pastor is willing to do; him and his deacons are willing to do this kind of work," Councilman Glenn explained.
Glenn is also looking to bring more 6th-ward churches on as partners in the program.
