Elida students explore hometown history at local museum

ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) - Elida Middle School students are learning more about the history of their hometown.

Groups of eighth graders spent the week touring the new home of the Elida Historical Society Museum on West Main Street. The museum recently opened inside the former New Creations Church building. Students learned about Elida's history and viewed artifacts during guided tours led by board chairperson Jayne Vaske, who has been involved with the historical society since it formed in 2023. Vaske said it's important for younger generations to understand the roots of their community.

"They seem to have a good time over in the yearbook area, looking up their parents, grandparents, the teachers. I just think they need to understand what that history is. The history of the town is here, and it didn't just pop up there. There's roots going back," Vaske said.

The museum is open the third Sunday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m.
