Girl Scout Emma Hunley raises $50K to purchase new DARE truck for Auglaize County Sheriff's Office

WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - A Wapakoneta Girl Scout just made a tremendous purchase for the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office that will benefit the entire county!

Emma Hunley with Troop 2063 raised $50,000 and purchased a brand new pickup truck for the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office DARE program. She pursued this project to complete her Girl Scout Gold Award, which is the highest award in Girl Scouts and equivalent to the Eagle Scout. When Emma heard the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office budget would be reduced due to decreases in tax revenue from the pandemic, she knew she had to help, and with her dream becoming a reality, Emma hopes she inspires other girls that they can do anything.

"I never thought that I would get this far. A couple of times in my project, I wanted to give up, but having this accomplishment, it like tells me that I can do anything. I can really accomplish anything, and whatever money that I need to raise, like I just know that... like, I am a big faithful person, and I know that God provides for me, so I feel really encouraged, and I want other Girl Scouts to know, other ladies to know, that they can do it too," shares Emma Hunley, Girl Scout Troop 2063.

With the new wheels, Auglaize County Sheriff Michael Vorhees says the truck will go to all schools around the county to help with their DARE campaign, a campaign that they can fulfill with the help of Emma.

"She's a young girl, and for her to put this together and do it for a commitment... you are not going to get many, many kids at her age that want to commit the commitment she did, and it's just wonderful. And we think going forward, it's going to be a great aspiration for other children, for other kids in this program," says Sheriff Michael Vorhees, Auglaize County Sheriff's Office.

Emma sought out numerous organizations within Auglaize County and the surrounding area for financial support for her project. She is set to receive the Gold Award on March 25th, 2025.
