LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Happy Daz Cool Car Cruise-In donated money Wednesday night to two local non-profits after having a record year.
This year, they were able to donate around $5,300 dollars from 50/50 raffle proceeds at the cruise-ins and a matching donation from Happy Daz. Organizers say that both the dollar amount raised and the number of cars on display throughout the season were higher than they've had in previous years.
The donation was split between Deb's Dogs and the Lima Veterans Food Pantry. Each year before the shows begin, supporters choose for themselves which causes they want to raise money for.
"Early in the year I put out a survey and everybody votes on which charities they would like to give money to, and they basically won the majority vote," explained Chris Schimpf, one of the organizers of the cruise-in.
"We like our car people to be part of it and choose what they want to do because it's their money that we get this money from," added co-organizer, Bryan Montgomery.
The Happy Daz Cool Car Cruise-In will be back at it again next May.
