Kasich proposes "Red Flag" gun law for Ohio

Ohio Governor John Kasich is advocating for a change to gun laws.

Kasich, Thursday, released  a plan for a "red flag" gun law in Ohio. The law would enable family members, guardians or police to ask judges to temporarily strip gun rights from people who show warning signs of violence. Kasich assembled an advisory panel after the shooting in Las Vegas back in October. The group's work was accelerated after February's school shooting in Florida. Five states already have a "red flag" gun law in place. The advocation for this law was a consensus decision by Kasich's panel.

"I'm very hopeful that we can do this," said Kasich at a Thursday afternoon press conference. "It will serve the people of the great State of Ohio. If in fact, we can carry this off, it also can be a significant model to people in other states all across this country."

Kasich also proposed six other changes he'd want to see related to gun and background check laws.
