DELPHOS, Ohio (WLIO) — An investigation is underway after a man was found dead in a wooded area near Delphos.
Van Wert County Sheriff Tom Riggenbach said 48-year-old Adam Purdy, of Van Wert, was discovered in a wooded area on the city’s west side.
Delphos police and fire crews, along with Van Wert County deputies, were dispatched to the area around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Based on information and items collected at the scene, authorities were able to identify the body as Purdy.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward. Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach issued a statement that his office is investigating the recovery of a body in Washington Township. Sheriff Riggenbach said his office received a call on Thursday, 03/18/2026, around 7:31 p.m. about a deceased individual in a wooded area of Washington Township. Deputies responded to the scene and were met by members of the Delphos Police Department and the Delphos Fire Department. Based on the information and items collected at the scene, deputies identified the deceased as Adam J. Purdy, age 48, of Van Wert.
Sheriff Riggenbach stated that the incident is under investigation, and anyone with information about Mr. Purdy’s recent activities is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
