Landeck Elementary School faces possible closing

After almost 100 years of service, a beloved Landeck-area school may have to close.

Since 1916, Landeck Elementary School has been the educational center for hundreds of children in the area. However, this may be the last year students step foot in this building.

Delphos City Schools interim superintendent, Joel Hatfield, said the school is facing both a decline in enrollment and is struggling with finances.

"We are looking at finishing this year showing some deficit spending and after year three over a five-year forecast the school district is going to have a negative balance," said Hatfield. "So we have got to do some things to reduce our spending."

The board of education will be hosting a public meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Jefferson High School cafeteria to discuss the future of Landeck Elementary School.Â
