LIMA, OH (WLIO) - October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
To honor the lives of little ones lost too soon, Lima Memorial Associate Lacey Hefner donated 61 special sleep sacks to the hospital's Family Birth Center.
Hefner has actively provided things like toys and blankets to families in need since tragically losing her daughter Rylee in 2016 to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) at just three months.
Her donation not only promotes safe sleep practices, but it also serves as a tribute to her late daughter.

"Helping other people is healing in its own way. Just being there for other people that have been through this situation and trying to help prevent other people from being through the situation is something that is really important to us as a family. You just don't want anyone to have to go through it," explained Hefner, BSN RN, Clinical Informatics.
OB Clinical Nurse Manager, Joan McBride, added, "The sleep sack is an aid for the patients to take home to put on their babies, and it's a physical reminder of positioning the infant so they're positioned in a safe manner to hopefully prevent Sudden Infant Death. They should be sleeping on their back, not on their stomach, and nothing in the bed. So, no blankets, no stuffed animals, and they're really discouraging any kind of smoke, anything in the air as well."
Lacey urges parents to practice safe sleeping with their little ones and to be more open-minded in asking for help when needed.
