After back to back weekends of freezing rain here in West Central Ohio, it's comforting to know we have a dedicated team keeping our interstates and major highways clear and safe for travel.
District One of the Ohio Department of Transportation is entering an already busy winter season. Their skills have been put to the test, but thanks to updated trucks they're ready for the challenge. Highway technician, Chris Washam, credits the new equipment for an increase in productivity and safety. Washam says the older truck models could only hold around sixty gallons of liquid brine compared to nearly one thousand gallons in the 2016 models. Also, the new rear spray bars expedite the ice and snow melting process.
Most importantly, Washam adds that brighter lights and rear reflectors significantly improve safety for everyone on the road.
