Toasting to the New Year

If you plan to toast to the new year, a local specialist is offering tips to find the perfect champagne or sparkling wine. The wine specialist at a Chief Supermarket in Lima says people traditionally associate New Year's with champagne, but white wines are becoming more popular for the holiday. The specialist tells us chardonnays, proseccos and vinho verdes have been popular this year. If you have specific questions, they say talking an expert at the store can always help.

"You want to look towards your name brands, the higher end wines if you're looking for a good quality, or to talk to a wine person who can help you make that choice and perhaps food pairings if you're interested in that," specialist Steve Smith said.

Smith says you should be able to find a quality wine or champagne for anywhere from $9 to $50. He will be working until 5 pm New Year's Eve at the Chief's on Cable Road if any one wants to stop by with questions.
