One man is dead and another in custody after a deadly shooting in Van Wert.
31 year old Chad Phillips of Middle Point making his initial appearance in a packed Van Wert Municipal Court.  According to Van Wert Police Department reports, Phillips allegedly shot 24 year old Christopher McMillen at the Fox Road Apartment complex.
Police were called to the apartments around 9:00 Thursday evening. McMillen was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Van Wert County Hospital and then life flighted to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital. McMillen later died from his injuries. Phillips was arrested at a home near Middle Pint and charged with attempted murder.
A Van Wert grand jury will meet late next week to consider additional charges. Phillips will be back in Van Wert Municipal Court next Friday for a preliminary hearing. Judge Jill Leatherman set bail at one million dollars.Â
Police are releasing few details about the shooting. However, residents of the Fox Road Apartments where the shooting apparently took place are still shook up.  David Estes says he lives in the apartment below the one where McMillen was shot.  Estes said he heard at a thumping sound and about six gunshots fire off.Â
