It has given the mayor and her administration the chance to learn about concerns in all parts of the city of Lima along with learning about each other’s roles in the solutions.
Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith has been beating the pavement with her administration for nearly 2 months with her “Walking the Wards” initiative. Today they were out in parts of the seventh ward on the city's west side. They have been able to talk with residents and witness firsthand issues such as property maintenance, mowing, and sidewalks. Getting out in the neighborhoods has also benefitted the city in another way.
Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith explains, “The other thing that it has done is improve communication between the departments and we’re keeping better track from one department to another about what’s changing, what’s happening in our neighborhoods, and being able to really leverage city resources to help improve the look, the feel, the build of our neighborhoods across our community.”
“Walking the Wards” will continue through mid-June.
