The Department of Workforce and Small Business Development is encouraging small, minority, women, and veteran-owned businesses to attend an open house next Wednesday to learn how they can get contract work with the City of Lima. While it is labeled a "Mowing Expo", it will offer resources for these types of entrepreneurs to learn what is needed to get work awarded to them.
It was announced today that they are merging with HTM Area Credit Union in Troy. This brings HTM's 3,600 members into the fold with Superior's of nearly 100,000 members. HTM members will gain access to Superior's 23 Ohio branches and superior members will be able to access HTM's Troy location.
Chances are you may have encountered more work zones than normal on Ohio roads this winter due to the mild weather and lack of snow. The Ohio Department of Transportation says Mother Nature normally keeps crews busy with snow and ice removal, but those days have been largely non-existent this winter. Please do not give bank or credit card information to anyone over the phone that claim to be seeking donations on behalf of Find A Ride or the Area Agency on Aging 3.
Dominion Energy is accepting applications for its Educational Equity Scholarship Program, a six-year, $10 million initiative that provides financial assistance for students from historically underrepresented communities pursuing undergraduate degrees across the company's service area. Eligible students are encouraged to apply now through Jan. 25, 2023.

HARROD, OH (WLIO) - Members of the Harrod community came together Saturday evening to enjoy a night of games, music, and dancing.
The city can be responsible for mowing up to 500 parcels during the year. These are city land bank properties and specified parcels with the mowing traditionally being awarded to one contractor. This year will be different as the city wants to break the parcels into separate contracts giving more than one company a chance at a contract.
They are volunteers and many agencies and organizations couldn't manage without them. Nominations are now being sought for the 2023 Jefferson Awards for public service. We all know someone that fits the bill of always saying yes when asked to help or the person that steps up in a time of need. This recognition is open to adults and youths in Allen, Auglaize, Putnam, Van Wert, Hardin, and Hancock Counties. Winners not only get a medallion but also a monetary donation to a non-profit of their choice.
Workers' compensation fraud was the topic at West Central Ohio Safety Council's January meeting. The guest speaker was a private investigator out of Cincinnati who relates his work to Magnum P.I., and gave members an inside look at the tricks his company uses to track down abusive claims. The National Insurance Crime Bureau says workers' comp fraud costs 30 billion annually. The goal is for area businesses to see the value private investigators can bring to their industry.
