The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) and the Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) are partnering at a free event where teen drivers can practice crash avoidance techniques and gain the experience necessary to become safer drivers.

With Memorial Day next week, the unofficial start of summer is upon us — meaning more people will travel by road and air over the coming months. According to AAA, 45.1 million people nationally and 1.7 million Ohioans will travel at least 50 miles from home between May 22 and May 26 for the holiday.

Last week was the start of “100 deadliest days” for teen drivers and AAA warns that it could be an even deadlier year with the combination of certain factors in place this summer. 

The 100 deadliest days started memorial day and ends labor day, when the number of fatal crashes involving teen drivers historically rises. This year, the combination of schools being closed, activities and summer jobs canceled, and the covid restrictions being lifted, it could make for an even worse outcome.
