The Allen County Fair has tons of events and activities planned for their 175th anniversary this year!
Troy Elwer, the fair’s promotions and operations manager, spoke Monday at the Lima Rotary Club, giving an update on preparations at the fairgrounds for the big event.
A preview of the fair rolled through downtown Lima as members of the Junior Fair, high school bands, cheer squads and others showcased their personalities on floats. They also introduced residents to the many projects, 4-H groups and shows they can enjoy during the 2025 fair.
During the dinner, the board premiered a documentary looking back on the fair’s 175-year history and awarded 10 scholarships to students.
The Sisters of Notre Dame are celebrating a milestone anniversary in 2025.
“We felt like it was a really cool way to kind of commemorate this year's celebratory year, being the 175th,” said Troy Elwer, Promotions and Operations Manager. “The way that you can actually purchase that merchandise, if you go to our website at allencofair.com you'll see a scrolling screen at the top that says, fair wear. You click on that and you can make your purchases online.”
“I tell you what, the whole goal with this project, and having the partnership with Visit Greater Lima, is not only to have a celebratory piece for our 175th anniversary this year, but we really wanted to find a fun and creative way to drive tourism right here to Lima and Allen County — and I think we’re achieving that with this project,” Elwer said.
On Arbor Day, the Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District annually plants a tree to recognize a person or organization. This year, they selected the Allen County Fair, which is marking its 175th anniversary.
