The Shawnee Township Police, in partnership with Apollo Career Center and Allen County EMA, will conduct a multi-agency, full-scale active shooter training drill on Sunday, September 7, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. The high school is not in session.

November 18, 2024, Press Release from Apollo Career Center: The Shawnee Township Police and Fire Departments, in partnership with Apollo Career Center and Allen County EMA, will conduct a multi-agency, full-scale active shooter training drill on Monday, November 25th, beginning at 12:00 p.m.  This drill will be for staff only. The high school is not in session, and there will be no high school students on campus.

The Lima Police Department and the ALICE training institute have teamed up to bring the certification training to the AXIS center. During the program, attendees were able to learn important strategies and responses that they can implement if faced with an active shooter. The recent shooting at Michigan's Oxford High School also intensified the focus of the training.

An active shooter response training session was held by the Mercer County Sheriff's Office. Held at a home behind the sheriff's office, the training helped deputies and officers learn how to effectively respond to an active shooter situation. A classroom session was held prior to participants getting hands-on training by going through a controlled environment, where they had to clear rooms, communicate with one another, locate hostages, and arrest the shooter.

Something like an active shooter isn't something that you can predict -but it is something that you can prepare for.  That's exactly what was planned at the St. Marys Middle and High School complex on Wednesday morning.
