Local law enforcement is having good conversations over a cup of coffee. Today is "National Coffee with a Cop Day," and the Allen County Sheriff's Office picked up the tab for a free cup of coffee or tea at the Cable Road Biggby this morning. It's the ninth year for the national event that aims to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the public. Many deputies and officers were on hand having a positive interaction over a cup of coffee.

Allen County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting that left one person dead in Perry Township. The sheriff's office has not released many details as of yet, but they say the incident happened on Charledon Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Deputies say a victim was taken to Lima Memorial, where they were pronounced deceased. A suspect has been taken into custody. The sheriff's office says the investigation is ongoing and more details will be released when they become available.

Despite some heavy rain, the Allen County Sheriff's Office did not let Mother Nature ruin their fun at the Allen County Fairgrounds for their annual National Night Out. In addition to having dinner and talking with deputies, the SWAT team and the bomb squad, a big part of the celebration is the 5K run where all money and proceeds directly benefit the Allen County D.A.R.E. Program. On Tuesday evening, we talked with Allen County Sheriff, Matt Treglia, about why Tuesday night was so important.

A Lima man refused to leave his home when Allen County Sheriff deputies tried to execute a protection order. 26-year-old John Peterson III walked out of 807 Crestwood Avenue after a two-hour negotiation with the sheriff's department after he barricaded himself inside the home. Deputies were trying to execute a court-ordered protection order when Peterson closed the door and refused to come out.
