October 23, 2024, Press Release from the ARC for Lima: Lima, Ohio - Leslie Rigali, the founder of ARC for Lima, a local non-profit, will be recognized at the Ohio School Board Association Northwest Region Fall Conference with an award for community service. ARC for Lima's mission is to provide for children in the Lima community. The organization supports local schools and agencies that work tirelessly to create better lives and opportunities for Lima's kids.

A former dean for The Ohio State University at Lima was honored and recognized Tuesday evening.

Dr. John R. Snyder, Dean of OSU Lima from 2003 until 2013 and a professor emeritus in the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, was awarded this year's recipient of the Violet I. Meek Town and Gown Award, an award that honors an individual who promotes education for citizenship at OSU Lima. Dr. Snyder has authored or co-authored more than 75 journal articles and 38 book chapters in laboratory management and allied health education while serving several local and national boards as well as pursuing several international projects in Haiti, Saudi Arabia, Zambia, Ethiopia, and South Africa. On Tuesday night, we talked with Dr. Violet Meek about why Dr. Snyder symbolizes the meaning of this award.

The Violet I. Meek Town and Gown Award honorees personify the idea of Disciplina in civitatem, or education for citizenship, the motto of The Ohio State University. Snyder is the eighteenth recipient. The award is named for Violet I. Meek, who retired as dean and director in 2003 after 12 years in the position at Ohio State Lima.

A leader of education from Apollo Career Center has been awarded as Ohio's Treasurer of the Year. Maria Rellinger, Treasurer and CFO at Apollo, has been bestowed the 2024 Outstanding Treasurer/CFO of the Year Award from the Ohio Association of School Business Officials Foundation for School Business Management at this year's conference and expo in Columbus. On Monday evening, the Apollo Board of Education recognized Rellinger, and Executive Director, Katie Johnson, of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials traveled to Lima to present Rellinger her engraved trophy. Rellinger has been the Treasurer/CFO at Apollo for 7 out of her 17-year career, and we talked to Rellinger about the impact this award has on her.
