September 25, 2024, Press Release from Bluffton University: BLUFFTON, Ohio—Bluffton University students now will have the opportunity to major in physical education. The four-year degree allows students to receive a multi-age license (Pre-K-12) to teach health and physical education. The health and physical education major will help address the issue of under qualified teachers teaching health and physical education courses. According to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce in 2021-22, 4.8% of high school health education courses were taught by teachers without proper certification, 4.4% of middle school physical education courses and 4.6% of high school Physical Education courses were taught by teachers without proper certification. 

The Ohio State University at Lima is officially appointing a new leader for the future today. Margaret Young has served as the interim dean and director of the branch since April 2023 and has now been appointed to the official role of dean and director by the university, effective July 1st. Young's appointment will have her oversee success programs, innovative teaching and research, and supporting community relationships. Young joined the campus as an assistant professor back in 2010 and was promoted to associate professor in 2016 and then up to assistant dean from 2019 to 2021.

A local resident has received the Michelle Obama Award for their academic excellence.

Rhodes State College will be applying to the higher learning commission to be approved to offer a bachelor of science in nursing degree. They currently offer degrees for state-tested nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, and an associate degree for a registered nurse. So getting approval for a bachelor's degree is important for the college to help expand opportunities for their students, but also for local hospitals as well.

According to Ohio Northern University’s website, Dr. Melissa J. Baumann, has been selected as the 12th president of the school. She will be the first woman to hold the position and will be inaugurated on July1st.  Her appointment was unanimously approved at a recent board of trustees meeting.
