The Hudson, Ohio-based fabric and craft retailer is closing around 500 stores across the U.S., including the stores in West Central Ohio.
All the Lima Rite Aid locations will be closing in September. In the latest round of bankruptcy court filings, the company announced that the Market Street and the Bellefontaine Street stores and the one in Delphos will be closing this fall. Besides Lima and Delphos, the locations Findlay, Ada, Kenton, and St. Marys have made it on the closure list since Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the fall of 2023. Over 500 locations have been announced to close nationwide.
More Lima locations were added to the list of Rite Aid pharmacies closing after the company filed for bankruptcy last year. In a new list of closures filed with the federal bankruptcy court, Rite Aid on the corner of Elm and Eastown Road and also the store on the corner of Shawnee and Breese Road will be closing this fall. Those Lima locations, along with the one on Robb Avenue, are three of the five Rite Aid stores listed with a Lima address. The store in Saint Marys has also been placed on the list to close.
More local Rite Aid stores will be closing as the company tries to reduce expenses through bankruptcy. According to documents filed at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the Rite Aid on Robb Avenue in Lima will be closing in August. The store on North Main Street in Findlay is also on the chopping block. The St. Marys store's closing was announced by Rite Aid last week.
Rite Aid has announced that more stores will be permanently closing across Ohio including one locally. According to documents from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the Rite Aid location at 1502 Executive Drive in St. Marys was included on that closure list with the store already putting up signs saying that everything must go.
The Chairman and CEO of Stock and Field announced they will be closing all their 25 stores after 55 years of doing business. The store was formerly known as Big R. The company first came to Lima Allen County in November of 2016 filling the vacant Wal-Mart store in Clock Tower Plaza. Company officials say they were not immune to the effects of the pandemic and court documents state they are filing Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. In a statement on their website, they thank their employees and customers for their support and are offering massive discounts in the coming weeks.
It appears the JCPenney stores in Lima and Bellefontaine will survive the next round of closures for the chain. The company did not specifically list which stores were staying open, but the company did release its list of the first 154 stores to be closed as a result of its bankruptcy filing. It shows JCPenney closing nine stores in Ohio, including the ones in the Northtowne Mall in Defiance and the location in the Miami Valley Mall in Piqua.
