March 21, 2024 Press Release from the Office of Governor Mike DeWine: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)— This morning, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed an executive order establishing a statewide program to recognize law enforcement agencies that voluntarily meet or exceed Ohio’s new standards for professional excellence. Led by the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board, the new Ohio Collaborative Law Enforcement Accreditation Program will certify law enforcement agencies that implement a series of nearly three dozen state standards reflective of best practices in law enforcement. Although several other states have law enforcement accreditation programs, Ohio’s program is the only state-administered program in the nation that does not charge law enforcement agencies to participate

February 22, 2024 Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol: COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) joined forces with other members of the 6-State Trooper Project to focus on speed, safety belt and OVI enforcement on Interstate 75. During the project, 504 people in Ohio were issued citations including 454 for speed and 44 for safety belt violations. Additionally, six people were cited for OVI.

February 16, 2024 Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol: COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) are joining forces with other members of the 6-State Trooper Project to focus on speed, safety belt and OVI enforcement on Interstate 75.

In a joint effort to improve retention and recruitment of officers, Mayor Smith and Chief Cortes shared that the City of Lima will be increasing the starting pay for new officers to $29.28 per hour, and that all existing officers will receive a $3 per hour wage increase at the start of 2024 and a 3% wage increase each year of the contract.

This is the first year that the city has had a team in the Ohio Operations Challenge Competition and they garnered second overall in the state. The 4-person team competed in a variety of events to test the diverse skills required of a wastewater operator. It also is a chance to network with other departments and share ideas.

The Lima/Allen County Safe Community Coalition is gearing up for their Annual Safe Community Awards by asking the public for nominations of outstanding individuals who live or work in Allen County. For the 25th year in a row, members of our community can be nominated to receive recognition for their efforts to keep Allen County safe through outreach, enforcement, rehabilitation, education, and emergency services.

AAA is urging anyone making plans for international travel to check their passport first. The post-COVID surge in international travel has caused unprecedented processing delays that could impact travel this summer and, possibly, through the end of the year. At this time, reported routine passport processing times are more than double what they were prior to the pandemic.
