“They are actually growing,” said Paul Downing, operations manager of the Lima Salvation Army. “So it's really great that people are coming online and doing that. If you need any help at all, please call the Salvation Army. We can help you and walk you through your application process, but it's pretty much just uploading all the information that is normally required during the season.”

The Lima Salvation Army is sending out the last call for families who may need help this Christmas season. On Tuesday, October 29th between 9 AM and 12 PM and between 1 PM and 3 PM, there will be one final chance for families to sign up for the Salvation Army's Christmas Assistance. The in-person only sign-up will be at the Lima Salvation Army's facility at 614 East Market Street across from Lima Senior High School. During the holidays, many families experience financial and emotional hardships. From making sure the kids receive toys to ensuring families have hot meals, Operations Coordinator, Paul Downing Jr., wants area families to experience joy this Christmas season.

Lima Salvation Army officials are scratching their heads, wondering where the people are. October 1 was the start of the Christmas assistance sign-up, and the numbers are way down. Where there are traditionally long lines, there were none. Only 161 families signed up Tuesday, and this is a concern as, on average, they assist 500 to 700 families and up to 1,700 children during the holidays.
