As we approach the holiday season of giving, it's important to have a plan to avoid over-spending. According to the National Retail Federation, the average holiday season spending per person was around $875 in 2023 and is expected to grow up to $902 dollars, making it even more important to shop smart and create a budget beforehand.

The food giveaway was made possible by the USDA Farmers to Family Food Box, who buys food from distributors that were affected by the closure of restaurants and other food service businesses and distribute them to food banks to help out people in need during the pandemic. The manager of the bank’s branch spoke to us about partnering with the food bank.

Citizens National Bank has been supporting local businesses through the paycheck protect program, or PPP. The bank announced on May 1st that 100% of PPP loans that have been requested by customers have been approved through the Small Business Administration.

A local banking institution opened its doors 100 ago and they still have the same dedication to the people that they serve. It was January 31, 1920, when Citizens National Bank opened up in Bluffton with $50,000 in capital and 4 employees. One hundred years later, they have 10 offices, 160 employees and over 850 million dollars in capital. Just like when they open the doors one 100 years ago, they were passing out apples to their customers. The bank attributes their growth to building lasting relationships with their customers.

2019 is a year that most farmers would like to forget, the same goes for insurance agents that handle crop insurance. But it’s a new year and Citizens National Bank and Williamson Insurance offered local farmers the chance to learn what 2020 could bring. With a rainy spring that lasted into summer, farmers took a hit on getting their crops into the fields. Williamson Insurance says just their crop insurance clients were paid out a total of 60 million dollars to make up for some of the losses in 2019. So they stressed the importance of checking to see what type of insurance plan is best for individuals’ farms. And in terms of grain prices, national agriculture experts say going into 2020 prices are not bad, but not good either.
