July 24, 2024, Press Release from the USDA Rural Development Ohio: COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 26, 2024 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development in Ohio State Director Jonathan McCracken announced today nearly $1.1 million in grant funding for 20 projects through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). These grants help Ohio farmers and rural small businesses invest in renewable energy systems or make energy efficiency improvements to lower operating costs.

April 25, 2024, Press Release from the USDA Rural Development: COLUMBUS, Ohio, Apr. 25, 2024 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development in Ohio State Director Jonathan McCracken announced today funding for 40 projects through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) for investments in renewable energy systems or to make energy efficiency improvements. These projects will help Ohio farmers and small businesses lower energy costs, generate additional income, and strengthen resiliency in their operations.

The 60-acre, 46,000 solar panel site is generating 13.5 megawatts. The project started in April of 2021 and was producing power by the end of November. Because they hit their deadline for start-up, Wapakoneta got a $750,000 tax credit. But the city and partners are not finished, they are already working on Phase three.

Mayor David Berger announcing the city is joining “Power A Clean Future Ohio”, a nonpartisan coalition and campaign dedicated to clean energy solutions. The group will take a look at the city’s rolling fleet of vehicles to see what changes can be made to become more efficient and embrace clean energy technologies.
