The project was made possible in part through Ohio’s Brownfield Remediation Program, which provides grants to support the removal of structures containing hazardous substances. The Macy’s building met the criteria for the program, and Allen County received $1.3 million in state funding for the demolition. The project is being led by the Allen County Land Bank.

The new administration building marks the first phase of a broader effort to reconfigure the locations of county offices and courtrooms. Once county departments have moved into the new facility, interior renovations to the historic courthouse will begin. Those upgrades will allow all county courts to be consolidated into one location.

“A lot of meetings, a lot of work, a lot of opportunity, and a lot of the great people of Allen County helping us out in every way they can,” said Jeff Tracy, a Vietnam veteran and member of the Veterans Committee. “The product’s going to be made here, put here—parts of the Lima tank plant are going to help us do it. It’s just wonderful.”
