In the last several years, the police department has moved to getting lists from selected families, shopping, and delivering the wrapped packages to their homes. The event is funded by donations through the Fraternal Order of Police, their auxiliary, Meijer, and the Garlock Memorial Foundation. Last year they provided for a little more than 80 families and they have funding for about 50 this year. They are still taking donations.
You are invited to join LPD officers at “Our Town Roast” in Lima’s Town Square for a cup of coffee and conversation. It’s a chance for residents to speak with law enforcement in a casual setting about any concerns and a chance to see one of the new businesses located in the square.
Building friendships and bettering the community is what a free community picnic is all about this Saturday.
With the reinstatement of Community Oriented Policing in the Lima region several years ago, the Lima Police Department has hit the ground running.
Crime was down in the City of Lima last year, and the police department is crediting the residents for the decrease.
