After three hours of negotiating, law enforcement penetrated the residence with less-lethal chemical agents in efforts to cause Hatcher to surrender. Hatcher then fired nearly 30 shots towards law enforcement, based off rifle casings recovered at the scene. No person was struck by the shots fired by Hatcher. However, a residence across the street was struck multiple times. No shots were fired from law enforcement during this event.
The pursuit began at 11:33pm when deputies observed the vehicle being operated in excess of the posted speed limit on N. Detroit St. in the City of Kenton. When signaled to stop the driver refused to do so, leading deputies south on Ohio Route 31 into Union County. The vehicle, which was found to be stolen, was stopped after the deployment of stop sticks and pit maneuver tactics.
The Shawnee Township Police Department responded on 5-19-23 to the residence at 212 Mahoning to a deceased person. This response uncovered several criminal matters for investigation including an investigation into the death of Zachary Kohli. Although other criminal matters are still pending, the death investigation has concluded.
