November 19, 2024, Press Release from the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol: VAN WERT - Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Adam L. Saylor has been selected the 2024 Trooper of the Year at the Van Wert Post. Trooper Saylor joined the Highway Patrol in 2016 as a member of the 160th Academy Class and is a graduate of Van Wert High School. Saylor serves as a Field Training Officer and has also been awarded the Patrol’s physical fitness and safe driving awards

Despite some heavy rain, the Allen County Sheriff's Office did not let Mother Nature ruin their fun at the Allen County Fairgrounds for their annual National Night Out. In addition to having dinner and talking with deputies, the SWAT team and the bomb squad, a big part of the celebration is the 5K run where all money and proceeds directly benefit the Allen County D.A.R.E. Program. On Tuesday evening, we talked with Allen County Sheriff, Matt Treglia, about why Tuesday night was so important.

A portion of I-75 at mile marker 139 Northbound and 143 Southbound will be renamed the "Officer Dominic Francis Memorial Highway". Officials say 42-year-old Dominic Francis was struck and killed by the suspects' vehicle as he tried to put down stop sticks. Francis was a nine-year veteran of the Bluffton Police Department and a coach at Cory Rawson Schools.

The mayor says she saw that cities across the country are facing the same issues but just on a different scale. For example, the struggle to hire police officers. The City of Lima needs ten officers and the city of Cleveland needs 200 officers. She says that mayors all across the country are looking at different ways of policing to operate in this difficult climate. Many looking at how to use technology as a force multiplier.

Officers were dispatched to a report of a deceased person floating in the retention pond at the rear of 1161 W. Trenton Ave. The body of a deceased white male was recovered from the pond. The body was transported to the Lucas County Coroner's Office for an autopsy. At this time the deceased male has not been identified.

46-year-old Antrea Hardy is in the Allen County Jail on the charge of suspicion of felonious assault. According to the Lima Police detectives, officers responded to Imperial Inn just after 9:30 a.m. Monday morning. They found 40-year-old Cory Adkins with a single gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical but stable condition.
