Allen County Sheriff's Office celebrates National Night Out at the Allen County Fairgrounds

On Tuesday evening, we talked with Allen County Sheriff, Matt Treglia, about why Tuesday night was so important.

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Despite heavy rain, the Allen County Sheriff's Office did not let Mother Nature ruin their fun at the Allen County Fairgrounds for their annual National Night Out. In addition to having dinner and talking with deputies, the SWAT team, and the bomb squad, a big part of the celebration is the 5K run where all money and proceeds directly benefit the Allen County D.A.R.E. Program. On Tuesday evening, we talked with Allen County Sheriff, Matt Treglia, about why Tuesday night was so important.

In addition to adults expressing their thanks to local law enforcement, we talked with one girl about why it is important to support our officers.

"The main goal is to get out and meet your officers in your community, and that's what we're doing here. We have our detective bureau here; we have our dispatchers here; we have our deputies, our K-9 officers, swat- we have everything that we have to offer in Allen County. I want you to come out and meet us in a great light when we're not responding to a call when we're not responding. It may not be a bad thing for you, but it may be an emergency call, and you're not going to be wanting to interact with us in the way you can here in a calm, sit-down environment and come up and talk to us," says Sheriff Matt Treglia, Allen County Sheriff's Office.

This is the 6th National Night Out the Allen County Sheriff's Office has put on.

In addition to adults expressing their thanks to local law enforcement, we talked with one girl about why it is important to support our officers.

"The reason that we need to support them is because like if someone broke into your house and you didn't have police because you didn't support them, you would have had nothing to do and no one to help. If like you guys are far away and you ever wanted to come to one of these but like you don't have like anywhere near you, you could pray for the cops," says Jocelyn Foust, 9-year-old supporting our officers.
