Hundreds of students filled Apollo Career Center on Friday, showcasing their talents across a wide range of skill areas. Apollo hosted the 2025-26 SkillsUSA Ohio Northwest Regional competitions. 66 Apollo students were among approximately 500 students from 20 career and technical centers who competed.
It's a program to teach young girls how to be ladies, and on Tuesday they learn about taking time for themselves. The "Girls in Pearls" program at Shawnee's Elmwood Elementary School got a spa day thanks to senior cosmetology students from Apollo Career Center. The girls got to pick out their nail colors and how they wanted them painted. The young ladies enjoyed the attention and talking with the Apollo students.
He could have quit, but instead, he persevered and is sharing his story with others. He is known as "Jimmy Fadez," a master barber from Columbus, and he was at Apollo Career Center speaking with their spa and cosmetology students. In 2022, Fadez was doing a weighted squat when his spine snapped. He was left paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. But that didn't stop him.
