The Lima Police Department was founded in 1887 with only seven officers to meet the needs of a growing city during the oil boom. Today, the department has 76 sworn officers, including the chief, 20 support staff and one part-time parking enforcement officer.

Sandra Monfort and her husband Eddie have always shown support of whatever cause or person they will be voting for in an election. They have put political signs in their yard for as long as they have lived on the busy street corner in Lima with no problem up until this week. On Wednesday, the couple noticed that a handful of their signs were missing.

Lima Police Department blocked off the area around Lima North Middle School, just after noon today, for the possibility of a suspicious package. A neighbor told police she believed a brown bag she saw on the sidewalk on O'Connor Avenue may be dangerous. After the Allen County Bomb Squad came in to look at the bag they decided it wasn't a threat. The middle school was not evacuated and the scene was cleared up within half an hour.

One woman is hospitalized after an early afternoon stabbing on Lima's south side.

Lima Police were called to 918 Holmes Ave. just before 1:00 pm on Friday (1/11/18) with reports of a fight, finding an injured woman upon arrival who appeared to have been stabbed. She was taken to Lima Memorial and another woman was taken to the police station for questioning.

The extent of the injuries for the hospitalized woman are unknown at this time, but according to the LPD sergeant on scene they appeared to be serious.
