If you are looking at adding a special four-legged friend to your family this holiday, you may want to wait until the new year before you start looking. A dog could be a good addition to a home, but with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, you may want to wait until things calm down so you can spend more time helping them adjust to a new home. Finding a rescue at a local shelter could be a good place to start.

The risk of pets running off due to stress is high, especially for those opening the door frequently throughout the night to pass out candy. To prevent escapes or bites, it's recommended to keep your pets confined somewhere in the home during trick-or-treating hours. For those coming home with bags of candy, make sure they're stored somewhere animals can't open or reach.
