The funds are part of more than $4 million recently awarded across the country for recipients to use the funds to purchase books, technology, equipment or materials to help extend a brighter future for K-12 students. The Ohio grants are expected to positively impact the lives of nearly 16,000 individuals in the state. Applications for the 2025 Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant cycle supporting youth, family, summer and adult literacy programs will be available at www.dgliteracy.org in January 2025. These grants aim to support schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center in implementing new literacy initiatives or expanding existing ones. The funds are part of the Foundation’s more than $10.6 million donated to support adult, family and summer literacy programs in the 48 states in which Dollar General operates. With today’s grants, the DGLF also surpasses helping more than 20 million individuals achieve their educational dreams since its inception in 1993. The grants awarded to Ohio organizations are expected to positively impact the lives of more than 20,000 individuals.
According to a press release from the Lima Police Department, investigators looked at surveillance video from the robbery. There, a woman told the Dollar General cashier that she had a gun and demanded an undisclosed amount of money from the register before fleeing the scene. An investigator spotted the woman a few hours after reviewing the footage and took her into custody.
Two people are in Allen County Jail after two separate incidents that happened overnight on Friday.
The New Bremen Police Department is looking for information to help them identify the suspects that they believe were involved in breaking and entering into cars and using stolen credit cards at the New Bremen Dollar General. A man is on the run after robbing the Dollar General on Main Street. According to the Lima Police Department, the man robbed the store's cashier at gunpoint around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Allen County Sheriff's Office is looking into some counterfeit bills being passed in the village of Elida. The Detectives Bureau is investigating a report of counterfeit bills being used at the Dollar General store in Elida. No one has been charged as of yet, and because the investigation is ongoing, no details about the investigation can be released. The sheriff's office says they will release more information if charges are filed.
Both the Allen County Sheriff's Office and Lima Police Department were busy Friday morning investigating a robbery. Shortly before 9:30, both agencies received a call that the Dollar General on North Jameson Avenue had been robbed. The Lima Police Department has described the suspect, who is still on the run, as a black man, between 30 and 40 years old. He's about 6 feet tall, thin with facial hair, wearing a dark brown Carhart with a hood and white mark on the right shoulder.
