Mercer Health utilizes nearly 700 units of blood on an annual basis for patients requiring transfusions to replace blood loss from surgical procedures, accidents or treatments for certain diagnoses. Mercer Health thanks the community for continuing to support local blood drives and is pleased to announce a new partnership with Community Blood Center (CBC), a regional blood bank providing blood products to 30 partner hospitals and health centers in western Ohio and eastern Indiana.

January is Ohio’s Blood Donor Awareness Month, and Community Blood Center is hoping you lend an arm to celebrate. On January 6th, they are teaming up with Mercy Health -Saint Ritas to hold a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the winter months blood donations drop because of the holidays and people falling ill and can’t donate. So, they are asking for your help to build the winter blood supply up, so hospitals are better prepared in case a need arises.
Students at Heir Force Community School have spent weeks collecting food, and today was the time to send off to area organizations helping those in need this season. 'Tis the season of giving, and that's the mindset of the student body at Heir Force Community School in Lima. Their annual food drive managed to bring in over 13,000 items, far exceeding the goal of 5,000. Students say the collective effort is just part of their mission to bring hope to our neighbors.
