Whether it’s on the playground, in the lunchroom, or in the classroom, Elida Elementary students have a Watch DAWGS in their corner. It’s a long-running program that brings male mentors in to work and interact with the kids. Alex McAdams became a Watch DAWG when his daughter Rylan started kindergarten. As part of the program, the mentors help the teachers in the classroom, spend time with the students during lunch and at recess, and give the students one-on-one help with subjects like reading. While McAdams is spending time with his daughter, he is also spending time with kids she sees daily.
Elida Elementary students are capping off a year of international learning from students at the University of Northwestern Ohio. International students from UNOH have been visiting with 2nd and 3rd graders from Elida Elementary throughout the school year, and today they gave presentations on their home countries. Those countries included Chile, Germany, Ireland, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Ecuador.
Elida Elementary has been holding their Family Literacy Night for 6 years to help prevent the reading slide that some students face over the summer months.
ELIDA, OH (WLIO) - Elida Elementary raised money with a craft show to help promote good habits in their students.
Students at Elida Elementary had a special visit from nationally recognized author Julia Cook who has published around 100 children's books. Each book steps into the worldview of a child to teach lifelong lessons on sharing, social development, and solving problems on our own. Cook says the goal is to equip young minds with people skills in a fun way.
Lifewise Academy held their 2nd annual 5K run in Elida. The program gives students, with their parents’ permission, the chance to spend less than an hour during the school day learning about religion and the bible. Elida Elementary will be starting their second year with the program and Allen East and Spencerville will be beginning their first.
