June 7, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Defiance Post: DEFIANCE – The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Bryan Police Department and the Williams County Sheriff’s Office, announced today, that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM tonight on North Main Street in Bryan, Ohio, in Williams County. The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
According to Fire Chief Justin Roberts, employees noticed white smoke on top of one of the silos. After investigating, firefighters confirmed it was coming from the east side of the silo. The Shawnee Township and Lima Fire Departments also assisted at the ethanol plant.
Ohio’s Democratic senator is sounding off about President Trump’s decision on corn ethanol and its impacts on Ohio farmers. Sherrod Brown is upset over the president's decision to grant over 30 waivers to oil refineries, so they don’t have to blend ethanol in with their gasoline. Fox News is reporting that roughly 40% of U.S. corn crop goes into ethanol production, and with oil refineries not using ethanol in their production, this could be another blow to grain farmers that have been facing a rough year already.
