Lima City Council's Finance Committee gathered Tuesday night to adjust a classification and pay grade of a city position. The committee reclassified the "Budget and Investment Analyst" title as the "Senior Investment Analyst." Under the new title, an amendment to a section of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lima would place the pay range of the "Senior Investment Analyst" at 25. This amendment comes after adjustments were made by the Department of Human Resources.

The Lima Finance Committee is breaking down the city’s 2023 proposed budget line by line.  Tuesday night, they started their first of three days of budget hearings.   The Mayor’s Office, Utilities, and Lima Municipal Court were just some of the departments on deck for the first night of hearings.  The city is looking good financially heading into the 2023 budget.  They have a carryover of $14 million, which is around 35% of the $45 million estimated budget for this year.

Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) says he is still working on helping Ohioans keep their pensions in the new congressional session.

Brown says the pension problem is still one of his highest priorities, and that he, Senator Rob Portman (R-OH), and others are still working on the pension bill. The Bill would prohibit reductions by half or more in pension benefits to those in multi-employer pension plans. 

He is hoping to have the issue resolved this year, and says the longer it waits, the harder it will be to fix.

Wednesday evening the Lima Police Department and the Lima Fire Department met with the finance committee to discuss their 2019 budget. In 2019 the Lima Police Department requested a $10.5 million budget, with 93.5 percent of it going towards personnel. Although this is a $350,000 higher budget than in 2018, the chief of police says it’s important to take care of the officers.
