January 10, 2025, Press Release from the Fort Findlay FOP Lodge 20 Foundation: Findlay, Ohio – January 10, 2025 – The Fort Findlay Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 20 Foundation has announced a special fundraising gala to honor the legacy of Officer Douglas T. Akers and endow the Officer Douglas T. Akers Memorial Scholarship. The event, 'Cuffs & Stuff,' is on Thursday, February 6, at the Old Mill Stream Centre, 1017 E Sandusky St, Findlay, OH 45840.  An additional purpose of the event is to highlight mental health awareness and support aspiring law enforcement professionals. A significant highlight of the evening is the Master of Ceremonies, Vinnie Montez, a seasoned law enforcement officer and acclaimed stand-up comedian. Montez, a 20-plus-year veteran of Colorado law enforcement, began performing comedy in 2007 as a way to cope with the stresses of his job. Drawing from his experiences as a police officer and his Mexican heritage, Montez quickly became a comedy favorite, appearing at venues nationwide, including Denver’s Comedy Works and the Great American Comedy Festival. Montez’s comedy special, Vinnie Montez: Armed & Hilarious, debuted on Dry Bar Comedy in 2019. He has shared the stage with top comedians such as Michelle Wolf, Josh Blue, and Gilbert Gottfried. Known for his hilarious and heartfelt stories about policing and mental health, Montez uses humor to bridge gaps between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

May 4, 2024, Press Release from the Fraternal Order of Police, Lima Lodge #21: On Wednesday, May 08, 2024, the public is invited to attend the Fraternal Order of Police, Lima Lodge #21’s 32nd Annual Police Memorial Service. This is held in conjunction with the National Police Week which begins this year on May 12th and runs through May 18th. Beginning at 12:00 noon at 750 West Robb Ave in front of the lodge hall at the memorial monument, Law enforcement officers from all agencies in the Lima-Allen County area will assemble for a memorial service to honor the ten Lima-Allen County area law enforcement officers that have lost their lives in service to their communities. A flag ceremony, gun salute and “Taps” will be provided by the Combined Honor Guards of the Allen County Sheriff’s Office and Lima Police Department. In the event of rain, the service will be held inside the lodge.

Fat Kid BBQ provided the pulled pork dinners. Residents lined up their cars at the parking lot of 750 West Robb Avenue, where they then paid for a barbecue meal to go, while staying in their vehicles. The drive-thru event started at 3:00 PM, however, cars began lining up as early as 2:30 PM.

They have been sworn to serve and protect and make pancakes. The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 21 will be hosting their 23rd Pancake Day. It's become a Lima tradition that supports the FOP's programs in the community. They help with the Explorers Post, Boy Scouts of America, Cops and Kids Christmas Shopping, and the police memorial located at the Lodge on Robb Avenue. The all you can eat breakfast is sure to fill you up while supporting a worthy cause.

Call it being a hero or doing their jobs, several people and organizations were recognized for their commitment to safety. The Fraternal Order of Police hosted the 21st annual Lima Allen County Safe Community Coalition Awards luncheon. The coalition is aimed at promoting traffic safety initiatives but honored a variety of different safety award winners. A committee comes together to decide on winners from nominations that came in from all over the city.
