“A lot of them have needs, just like our clients do,” said Greg Sowinski, communications coordinator for Allen County Children Services. “So just because they're not a client of the agency does not mean that they don't face some of the similar issues that our clients face, especially with financial means being limited.”
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Compassionate Ministries of Lima brought back another former community tradition this Easter holiday.
Our Place Family Dining offered a free meal of meatloaf, green beans, mashed potatoes, and more to veterans. Located in Kenton at 120 South Main Street, the restaurant already offers a 10% discount to veterans. Those who received the free meal were thankful to the staff and talked about how they appreciate the recognition and thanks they get for their time serving their country.
The Children's Hunger Alliance, along with CareSource and one of Lima's city council members teamed up to pass out free meals to kids in need on Wednesday afternoon. The grab-and-go meals were passed out at Maplewood Apartments, which is one of six meal sites that have been set up in Lima.
The free curbside pickup meals were made with donations given to the fire department from several local businesses. As the Pulled pork dinners were handed out, most people handed back money to donate. The donations will be split up between Bless a Bulldog and the Lord’s Pantry.
Nutrition students get to cook healthy foods and community members get to eat a free meal. It's a cooking series a professor calls a win-win situation.
