The City of Lima is warning motorists that a portion of East Market St. will be closed for a few days starting on Monday.
Just after 5 p.m. Monday evening, the Allen County Sheriff's Office received a call that a car had crashed into the side of the Hampton Inn on Lima's east side. Guests were evacuated by Perry Township Fire and EMS after reports of the smell of gas. Two people were taken to a hospital and checked out following the crash. Guests were given the okay to re-enter the building once it was deemed safe.
Police are currently looking for a driver that fled the scene after their car hit a gas line in Lima. According to the Lima Police Department, a driver was heading northbound on Central Avenue when they struck the gas line at the corner of 4th Street and Central.
Crews responded to the intersection of North Street and Sugar Street after a GEP Unit struck a gas line, causing a leak. The street was closed down in order for crews to fix the gas line. No evacuations took place. A total of 11 customers were affected by the gas line break. The line was repaired within an hour, with crews staying on scene for clean up. North Street was reopened around 3:30 PM.
The Allen County Sheriff's Office responding to a report of a car that struck a building just before 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The accident happened at Affordable Dentures on the east side of Lima. A box truck with a trailer tried to exit the parking lot by going around the backside of the building. The truck crossed over the sidewalk and struck an air conditioner unit, which snapped off the gas line. Workers were evacuated as fire units shut off the gas meter and cleared the building of the gas fumes.
Workers are in the process of cleaning up a Sunoco Gas line leak on the south side of Lima.
