July 2, 2024, Press Release from the American Red Cross: LIMA, Ohio, July 2, 2024 — As we prepare for a busy Fourth of July holiday, the American Red Cross asks donors to be a powerful force for good by giving blood now and in the coming weeks. Donors are critically needed right now after a sharp decrease in donations since late spring. All blood types are needed, especially donors giving type O blood.

The American Red Cross is urging people to lend an arm this summer to make sure hospitals have much-needed blood on hand. The Red Cross says they are critically in need of blood because they are seeing fewer donors rolling up their sleeves to give blood. Over the past month, they estimate around 20,000 fewer blood donations were collected than were needed to impact their blood supply, with blood donations historically lower during the summer months.
