Lima firefighters tried raising some money for a good cause by braving the cold today. Lima firefighters held their annual fill the boot campaign at the intersection of Robb Avenue and West Street. The firefighters have been putting this on to raise money for muscular dystrophy. The disease causes progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. All money will go to muscular dystrophy causes with 77 cents of every dollar going towards research. Every year they have been able to raise more money than the previous year.

The Lima Fire Department and friends held a special benefit rally for one of their own Saturday afternoon. Jeremy Welker has been with the Lima Fire Department for the last 19 years and was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor.  In order to help out his family with surgery and chemotherapy costs, the LFD and friends of the Welker family held a poker run and sold a few t-shirts.  Jeremy and his wife Sheri say that they've felt nothing but blessed with all of the support. ...
