Here are some of the programs and events being offered by the Johnny Appleseed Park District for the end of June!

The Allen Soil and Water Conservation District hosted its first Native Plant and Rain Barrel Sale to encourage residents to incorporate environmentally beneficial plants and practices into their landscapes. Organizers said native plants support local wildlife and pollinators while rain barrels help conserve water and manage stormwater runoff.

The Johnny Appleseed Park District officially opened the Beil’s Buck Run Nature Area, a 50-acre preserve featuring more than a mile of hiking trails through woods, meadows and waterways. Donated by Herbert and Elfrieda Beil, the property is now the district’s 18th public nature trail destination and is open to hikers from dawn to dusk.

The Johnny Appleseed Park District is offering a beginners kayaking class at Ottawa Metro Park's Lima Lake. 

Students out of school for the summer are taking aim at a new skill this week.

The Johnny Appleseed Park District celebrated a special kind of birthday today, a tortoise named Duke.

Despite rainy weather, children participated in the Johnny Appleseed Park District’s Nature Pals program, exploring nature through a five senses scavenger hunt.
The free program for children ages 3 to 5 continues April 2 with a session featuring a live frog and toad.
